What is a weekly limit?
Updated
A weekly limit is the second, longer cap on subscription usage. Codex: "Weekly limits may also apply", with no published number. Claude Pro and Max: "The weekly limit resets at a fixed time each week that is assigned to your account." Grok: "The usage pool limit resets every week on a schedule shown in the Usage tab in Settings." None of the three vendors publishes a weekly figure; your own reset time is in /status, /usage or Settings → Usage.
What the official docs say
Weekly limits may also apply.
Quoted from Codex pricing and usage limits (learn.chatgpt.com) The weekly limit resets at a fixed time each week that is assigned to your account.
Quoted from What is the Max plan? (Claude Help Center) your next automatic weekly reset is seven days after that request
Quoted from Managing usage with GPT-6 Astra in Work and Codex (OpenAI Help Center, revision 2026-09-16) The usage pool limit resets every week on a schedule shown in the Usage tab in Settings.
Quoted from xAI docs: Grok website and apps FAQ (Settings → Usage, weekly pool) We're rolling out new weekly rate limits for Claude Pro and Max in late August.
Quoted from Anthropic on X, 2025-07-28: weekly rate limits for Pro and Max
Definition
Codex: the weekly limit sits on top of the 5-hour window and "controls how much included work you can use over the weekly usage period." The clock is per account: "Your new weekly period starts with your first Work or Codex request after the reset, and your next automatic weekly reset is seven days after that request." A full banked reset "changes your weekly reset date". /status prints the date, for example "Weekly limit: … 97% left (resets 17:41 on 1 Jul)".
Claude: Anthropic announced weekly limits on 2025-07-28: "We're rolling out new weekly rate limits for Claude Pro and Max in late August. We estimate they'll apply to less than 5% of subscribers". The limit "applies across all models" and "resets at a fixed time each week that is assigned to your account"; "Your reset day and time stay the same regardless of when you start using Claude or when your subscription begins". Settings > Usage shows separate weekly bars "for Opus only and all other models."
Grok: paid usage is metered from a weekly pool. "The usage pool limit resets every week on a schedule shown in the Usage tab in Settings", and "When your weekly usage limit is met, paid features will pause until your weekly limit resets." Grok Bot has its own weekly usage: "Usage resets weekly." None of the three vendors publishes a weekly number, and this site does not estimate one.
On the board, an account-wide reset usually means weekly limits were refreshed for everyone: @bot's post of 2026-08-26 says "We're also resetting weekly usage limits for all users", and a Codex global reset refreshes the limits named in its announcement. Your own weekly clock stays separate: the board never shows it, and RESET NOW, BANKED, TEASE, WAITING and OVERDUE describe announcements, not your account.
Where you’ll see it on the board
The STATUS column on the departures board uses five words. Each one is a fixed rule of this site, computed from the announcements on record, not a promise about the next reset.
| Status word | What it means |
|---|---|
| RESET NOW | An account-wide reset was announced in the last 24 hours. |
| BANKED | The latest signal is a banked reset card you redeem yourself. |
| TEASE | A reset has been teased but has not taken effect yet. |
| WAITING | Normal waiting. Nothing announced since the last reset. |
| OVERDUE | The gap since the last reset is past 1.5x the recent median. |
FAQ
Does clearing the 5-hour window give back weekly usage?
No. Codex: "Where both apply, you need allowance remaining in both to continue". Claude: the weekly limit "applies across all models" on its own fixed weekly time. The short window and the long window are separate meters.
When exactly does my weekly limit reset?
Codex: the "Weekly limit" line in /status, for example "(resets 17:41 on 1 Jul)". Claude: /usage in Claude Code or Settings > Usage on claude.ai, which shows the reset "for Opus only and all other models." Grok: the schedule in the Usage tab in Settings. There is no universal time.
How much usage is in a week?
Not published. Codex's pricing page says only "Weekly limits may also apply"; Anthropic gives no count; xAI's FAQ gives a schedule but no amount. This site marks those cells "Not published" instead of guessing.
Does an official reset refill my weekly limit?
It depends on the announcement. A Codex full banked reset "refreshes your 5-hour and weekly Codex usage windows"; a global reset "refreshes the eligible usage limits specified in the announcement"; @bot on 2026-08-26: "We're also resetting weekly usage limits for all users."
