Why did my Claude Code weekly limit reset early?

The rule is a fixed weekly clock. 'The weekly limit resets at a fixed time each week that is assigned to your account', and that time does not move: 'Your reset day and time stay the same regardless of when you start using Claude or when your subscription begins, and you receive your full weekly allowance each cycle.' Settings > Usage on claude.ai shows the exact time 'for Opus only and all other models'.

Reason one, account-wide resets. Anthropic sometimes refreshes everyone at once and posts it on @ClaudeDevs: 2026-06-20 'we've gone ahead and reset 5-hour and weekly usage limits for everyone, across all plans', 2026-09-01 'we've also reset 5-hour and weekly limits for all users'. On 2026-06-19 a bug 'showed an incorrect weekly usage limit' for about 3% of users and limits were reset for everyone affected; on 2026-06-01 a subagent bug 'burning through usage faster than expected' triggered another. Those resets refresh your bar but do not change your assigned weekly time. This board records each one with its post.

Reason two, a different bar. The Error reference lists separate Opus and Sonnet limits that 'each apply only to requests to that model family'. Their reset times differ from the weekly one, so a model bar going back to zero can look like an early weekly reset. Reason three, a display bug: users have reported the weekly bar changing when switching machines (issue #93551), and Anthropic's 2026-06-19 post confirms a display bug of that kind happened.

The '72 hours' claim. A June 2026 gist recorded four resets at 2026-06-10, 06-13, 06-16 and 06-19, about 72 hours apart, and concluded the weekly limit resets every three days. That is a third-party observation over one ten-day span; the same span contained account-wide resets posted by @ClaudeDevs on 06-09, 06-13, 06-19 and 06-20. Commenters on the gist reported in August that the bar was back to once per week. Anthropic has never published a 72-hour rule.
