A countdown measured in days means the weekly limit; it refreshes on your account's own clock, shown by /status, and is not the account-wide reset this board tracks. The last official Codex reset on record was Sep 12, 2026, 08:09 UTC.

What does "You've hit your usage limit. Upgrade to Pro (https://openai.com/chatgpt/pricing) or try again in {N} days {N} hours {N} minutes." mean?
This wording comes from Codex CLI 0.39.0 in September 2025 (openai/codex issue #3899, 2025-09-19): the same usage-limit block as today, but with the wait expressed as "N days N hours N minutes" rather than an absolute "try again at" time. By 2026 the notice switched to absolute timestamps (issue #34360 shows "try again at Jul 25, 2026, 11:09 AM"), but the old sentence is still what many searches quote.
The countdown in the report was "5 days 22 hours 11 minutes". A wait of several days cannot be the 5-hour window, so a message in this form is telling you the weekly limit is used up; OpenAI meters Codex over "a five-hour window and a weekly window" and publishes no weekly figure.
The only paid route offered in the 2025 text is upgrading to Pro; newer versions also mention credits and, where offered, a banked or purchased reset.

What to do when you see it
- Read the countdown as a weekly-limit wait
Days in the countdown mean the weekly limit is what ran out. Add the countdown to the current time to get your refresh moment, or update the CLI so /status prints the absolute reset time next to "Weekly limit".
- Check /status in a current CLI
In an active session type /status; OpenAI's help center calls this the way to "Check which allowance is exhausted, your credit balance, and any reset time shown." Settings → Usage in the app and chatgpt.com/codex/settings/usage show the same bars.
- Upgrade, add credits, redeem a reset, or wait
The 2025 message only offers Pro, but OpenAI now says "You may be able to add credits, use an available reset, upgrade, or wait until the displayed reset time." Waiting is always an option; OpenAI Support does not reset usage limits.
When does it reset?
Your own window: the countdown is your account's weekly refresh, counted from the moment the message appeared. Paste the resulting time into the window tracker to get a countdown and a calendar file, or run /status in a newer CLI to read the exact time.
Account-wide resets: OpenAI occasionally resets everyone's Codex limits and the reset "is applied directly to the usage limits covered by the announcement". Those events are what the board row above and the Codex history page record; they are not scheduled, so a days-long countdown can be shortened only by such an announcement, a banked reset, or a purchased reset.

Why does it say days instead of a time?
Because this is the September 2025 wording of the notice, which expressed the wait as "N days N hours N minutes" (issue #3899). Codex CLI releases from 2026 show an absolute time such as "try again at Jul 25, 2026, 11:09 AM" instead (issue #34360).
