"You've hit your limit for Claude messages. Limits will reset at {H:MM AM}. View your usage details."
Updated
"You've hit your limit for Claude messages. Limits will reset at {H:MM AM}. View your usage details." is the claude.ai chat message when your allowance is used up; "View your usage details" links to claude.ai/settings/usage. The time is your own reset for the five-hour session or the weekly window, which Anthropic says reset every five hours and at a fixed weekly time. Issue #80062 shows a Max user still blocked past the time. It is not an account-wide reset.

What does "You've hit your limit for Claude messages. Limits will reset at {H:MM AM}. View your usage details." mean?
This is the limit dialog in the claude.ai web app. The "View your usage details" link opens claude.ai/settings/usage, where Anthropic's usage-limit article says you can see how much of the five-hour session limit you have used, the time remaining, and when the weekly limit resets for Opus only and for all other models.
Issue #80062 (2026-07-22) quotes it verbatim from a Max plan account: "You’ve hit your limit for Claude messages. Limits will reset at 9:30 AM. View your usage details." The reporter was blocked on typing "hello" and saw the same 9:30 AM after waiting more than five hours; the issue was closed as not planned because it concerned claude.ai rather than the Claude Code repository.
The wording does not say which window is full. Pro and Max have a session limit that resets every five hours and a weekly limit that resets at a fixed time each week assigned to your account; a reset time hours away points to the session window, a day or more away to the weekly one.
Which window is full?
| Window | Resets | Where to check |
|---|---|---|
| Session limit (5-hour) | Every five hours; the exact time is the one in the message | Settings > Usage on claude.ai (session used and time remaining) |
| Weekly limit | At a fixed time each week that is assigned to your account | Settings > Usage on claude.ai (weekly bar, with a separate bar for Opus) |
What to do when you see it
- Click "View your usage details"
It opens claude.ai/settings/usage. Read the session bar, the time remaining in the session, and the weekly reset times before deciding what to do.
- Wait for the time in the message
It is your own reset moment. The session allowance refreshes every five hours; the weekly one at a fixed weekly time.
- Refresh and check again if the time has passed
Issue #80062 reports the same 9:30 AM still showing after more than five hours. Confirm on Settings > Usage whether the bar has actually cleared.
- Contact support if you stay blocked
If Settings > Usage shows room and the dialog persists, use the help center's troubleshooting article and support channels rather than the Claude Code issue tracker, which closed #80062 as not planned.
When does it reset?
Your own window: the time in the message is when your window refreshes. Anthropic states that the session limit resets every five hours and the weekly limit at a fixed time each week that is assigned to your account. Settings > Usage shows both. Put the time on a countdown with the window tracker linked below.
Account-wide resets: separately, Anthropic sometimes announces a reset for everyone. Those are what this board records, each linked to its original post, and the row above shows the last one. They are announced, not scheduled, so this site does not promise one.

FAQ
Is this the five-hour limit or the weekly limit?
The message does not say. Open claude.ai/settings/usage via "View your usage details": it shows the five-hour session bar with time remaining and the weekly reset times. A reset a few hours away is the session window; a day or more away is the weekly window.
The reset time passed and I am still blocked. Why?
Issue #80062 describes exactly that on a Max plan: the same 9:30 AM after more than five hours. Check Settings > Usage to see whether the bar cleared, then reload. If it did not, the help center's troubleshooting article and support are the route; the Claude Code repository closed the issue as not planned.
Does Claude Code usage count toward this?
Yes. Both Pro and Max plans offer usage limits that are shared across Claude and Claude Code, so activity in either tool counts against the same limits. Heavy Claude Code use can produce this dialog in the web app.
Where does "View your usage details" go?
To claude.ai/settings/usage. Anthropic's usage-limit article lists what it shows: how much of the five-hour session limit you have used, the time remaining in the session, and when the weekly limit resets for Opus only and for all other models.
