"You've hit your session limit · resets {time}" is Claude Code's message when your rolling session allowance is used up. Anthropic says the session limit resets every five hours, and the time in the message is your own account's clock: run /usage to see it. Since v2.1.234 Claude Code can wait and continue automatically. It is not the account-wide reset this board tracks; the board row below shows the last one on record.

What does "You've hit your session limit · resets {time}" mean?
Subscription plans include a rolling usage allowance. When the session part of it runs out, Claude Code shows this message and blocks further requests until the reset time it names. The official Error reference lists it next to three siblings: the weekly, Opus and Sonnet limits.
The session and weekly limits are shared across all models, so switching models with /model does not restore access. The docs also warn that usage counts against the session and weekly allowances at the same time, so one burst of heavy activity, such as a large workflow fanout, can exhaust the weekly allowance before the session window resets.
Since v2.1.234, an interactive session signed in with a claude.ai subscription can wait in place: a line at the bottom reads "Usage limit reached · continuing automatically at 3:45pm · esc to cancel", and after the reset the task picks up where it stopped.

What to do when you see it
- Read the time in the message
That is your own reset time, not a site-wide event. Wait for it, or leave the session open and let Claude Code wait for you.
- Turn on automatic continue
In the CLI the setting is "Continue automatically at usage limit" in /config. In the Desktop app's Code tab, the session-limit card has an "Auto-continue when limits reset" checkbox. The two are separate settings.
- Run /usage
It shows your plan limits and when each one resets, so you can tell a session limit from a weekly one.
- Buy extra usage if you cannot wait
On Pro and Max, /usage-credits turns on usage credits. On Team and Enterprise it requests them from your admin. Credits do not move the reset time.
- Upgrade for higher base limits
Anthropic lists plan sizes at claude.com/pricing; Max 5x and Max 20x include five and twenty times the Pro per-session allowance.
When does it reset?
Your own window: Anthropic states that the session-based usage limit resets every five hours, and the exact time is the one in the message and in /usage. Usage credits do not change it: "Usage credits don't affect this reset timing." Put that time on a countdown with the window tracker linked below.
Account-wide resets: separately, Anthropic sometimes announces a reset for everyone. Those announcements are what this board records, each linked to its original post, and the row above shows the last one. They are announced, not scheduled, so this site never promises one; subscribe to alerts to hear about the next one.

FAQ
Does switching models fix "You've hit your session limit"?
No. The Error reference says the session and weekly limits are shared across all models, so switching models does not restore access. Only the model-family messages ("You've hit your Opus limit", "You've hit your Sonnet limit") can be worked around by switching to a model outside that family with /model.
Can Claude Code continue by itself after the reset?
Yes, since v2.1.234, in an interactive session signed in with a claude.ai subscription. While it waits, the bottom line reads "Usage limit reached · continuing automatically at 3:45pm · esc to cancel"; press Esc at an empty prompt to cancel. You can turn the behavior off with "Continue automatically at usage limit" in /config.
