Updated

"You've hit your usage limit. To get more access now, send a request to your admin or try again at {Mon Dth, YYYY H:MM PM}." is the Codex limit notice for Business and Team workspace seats, where the allowance is controlled by an administrator rather than by upgrading. It refreshes on the workspace's clock, shown by /status; it is not the account-wide reset this board tracks. The last official Codex reset on record was Sep 12, 2026, 08:09 UTC.

What does "You've hit your usage limit. To get more access now, send a request to your admin or try again at {Mon Dth, YYYY H:MM PM}." mean?

This is the workspace variant of the Codex usage-limit message. Instead of "upgrade" it tells you to ask your admin, because on Business and Team plans seat allowances and workspace spend caps are set in the workspace, not by the member. The "try again at" time is when the exhausted window refreshes.

All three source reports were filed on 2026-04-06 by Business seats (openai/codex issues #16917, #16909, #16906). In #16917 the reporter had used nothing in the previous 30 days, the web app showed "You've reached your workspace spend cap", and /status printed "limits: data not available yet", which points at a workspace cap or a limit-data sync problem rather than a genuinely empty window.

OpenAI's help center says Codex, ChatGPT Work and Workspace Agents "use a shared allowance and credit pool when those features are available on your plan"; on a workspace plan that pool and any spend cap are what the admin controls.

Which window is full?

Which window is full?
WindowResetsWhere to check
5-hour windowFive hours after the first message that opened the window, per account. OpenAI: "You may reach the five-hour limit before five hours have passed, even if you still have weekly usage remaining." Removed for Plus, Business and Pro on 2026-07-12; back for Plus since 2026-08-25 (the post says "Tomorrow" and is stamped 2026-08-25 01:16 UTC, i.e. Pacific time 2026-08-25); "not enabled for Pro $100 and Pro $200 subscriptions" for the upcoming months./status inside an active Codex CLI session (the "5h limit" line); Settings → Usage in the app; chatgpt.com/codex/settings/usage
Weekly limitOnce a week on your account's own date. OpenAI publishes no weekly figure ("Weekly limits may also apply"). A full banked reset "changes your weekly reset date"; after a purchased reset the next automatic weekly reset is seven days after your first request./status (the "Weekly limit" line); Settings → Usage; chatgpt.com/codex/settings/usage
Workspace spend cap (Business / Team)Set and changed by your workspace admin; OpenAI publishes no figure. In issue #16917 the web app showed "You've reached your workspace spend cap" alongside this message.Ask your admin; the banner in the Codex web app; /status may show "limits: data not available yet" while the cap is in force

What to do when you see it

  1. Ask your workspace admin

The message is literal: on Business and Team plans a member cannot raise the allowance. Ask the admin to check the seat allowance and the workspace spend cap in Codex settings, and to confirm the workspace still has credits.

  2. Check whether limit data is missing

Type /status in the session. If it prints "limits: data not available yet", as in issue #16917, the client has no limit data to show; wait a while or sign out with /logout and sign in again with codex login before assuming the window is empty.

  3. Report it with workspace details

If the workspace has allowance and you still see the message, file an issue at github.com/openai/codex with the /status output, or have the admin contact OpenAI Support with the reset time shown, a screenshot, the client and model, and your time zone.

When does it reset?

Your own window: when the message is about a genuine window, the "try again at" time is the refresh time for your seat; a date days away is the weekly limit. Paste it into the window tracker for a countdown. When it is a workspace spend cap, the time in the message may not help: access returns when the admin raises the cap or the workspace period rolls over.

Account-wide resets: OpenAI occasionally announces a reset for everyone, applied automatically to "the usage limits covered by the announcement". Whether a specific workspace cap is covered is stated only in that announcement. The board row above shows the last reset on record; the Codex history page lists every announcement with its original post.

FAQ

Why does /status say "limits: data not available yet"?

OpenAI has not documented that line. In issue #16917 it appeared together with this message and a workspace spend-cap banner on a seat with zero usage in the previous 30 days, so it indicated the client had no limit data rather than a used-up window. Re-login and ask the admin to check the workspace settings.

Can I buy credits or upgrade myself on a Business seat?

The message does not offer that route: it says to send a request to your admin. OpenAI's help center points business users to "Codex credit plans for business users" on chatgpt.com/pricing, which are managed at the workspace level.

Will an account-wide Codex reset lift a workspace spend cap?

Not published. OpenAI says an automatic reset "is applied directly to the usage limits covered by the announcement"; whether a workspace cap is among them depends on that announcement. Check the board row above for the last reset on record and read its source post.

Can OpenAI Support raise my limit?

No. "OpenAI Support does not reset ChatGPT or Codex usage limits." Support will investigate if usage was counted incorrectly or access has not returned after the stated reset time, and admins manage the workspace cap.
