"Claude usage limit reached. Your limit will reset at {time} ({Region/City})." is the 2025 Claude Code wording (v1.0.x in the reports) for a used-up usage window. The time and the IANA zone in brackets are your own reset time; Anthropic says the session limit resets every five hours and the weekly limit at a fixed weekly time. Current versions name the window instead and, since v2.1.234, can wait automatically. It is not the account-wide reset this board tracks.

What does "Claude usage limit reached. Your limit will reset at {time} ({Region/City})." mean?
Through the second half of 2025, Claude Code reported a full usage window with this sentence, for example "Claude usage limit reached. Your limit will reset at 3pm (America/Santiago)." It did not say whether the five-hour session or the weekly window was full.
Two issues show its rough edges. In #9236 (v1.0.39) the reset time was 23 hours away instead of the expected five-hour cycle. In #5977 Claude Code did not continue after the reset time passed; the automatic wait that fixes this arrived in v2.1.234.
The current Error reference lists four messages instead: "You've hit your session limit", "You've hit your weekly limit", "You've hit your Opus limit" and "You've hit your Sonnet limit". If you still see the 2025 sentence, you are on an old build.

What to do when you see it
- Read the time and zone
The zone in brackets is an IANA name such as America/Santiago. Convert it to your local time before deciding how long to wait.
- Run /usage
It shows the session and weekly bars and when each resets. A reset within five hours is the session window; days away is the weekly window.
- Update Claude Code
Current versions name the window in the message, and since v2.1.234 an interactive subscription session can wait and continue automatically, showing "Usage limit reached · continuing automatically at 3:45pm · esc to cancel".
- Wait, then send a new prompt
On the 2025 builds nothing resumes on its own after the reset (issue #5977); send the next prompt yourself once the time has passed.
When does it reset?
Your own window: the time in the message is when your window refreshes. Anthropic states the session limit resets every five hours and the weekly limit at a fixed time each week assigned to your account; issue #9236 shows the displayed time can be later than the five-hour cycle. Put the time on a countdown with the window tracker linked below.

Why is the reset time more than five hours away?
Either you hit the weekly window, which resets at a fixed weekly time assigned to your account, or the display was off: issue #9236 recorded a 23-hour gap on v1.0.39. Run /usage to see both bars and their reset times.
Will Claude Code continue on its own after the reset?
Not on the builds that print this sentence; issue #5977 is exactly that complaint. Since v2.1.234, an interactive session signed in with a claude.ai subscription can wait in place and continue automatically, and the CLI setting "Continue automatically at usage limit" in /config controls it.
Is this message still current?
No. The Error reference now lists "You've hit your session limit", "You've hit your weekly limit", "You've hit your Opus limit" and "You've hit your Sonnet limit". The older sentence appears in 2025 reports such as #9236 and #5977.
How do I read the time zone in brackets?
It is the IANA zone Claude Code used, such as (America/New_York) or (Europe/Warsaw). The moment of the reset is the same everywhere; only the printed clock time depends on the zone, so convert it to yours.
